How Does Training Differ From Coaching?

It is common to experience misconceptions regarding the differences between these two disciplines so we offer the following information to explain:

Training Coaching
Group or one to one One to one
Instruction / tell facts Questioning to draw responses
Blanket content (scripted) Content flexible dependent upon coachee's skill levels
Assumptions made regarding knowledge levels No assumptions made regarding the individual's knowledge level
'Off the shelf' Tailormade to the individual
Mono-paced Allows coachee to drive the pace
Classroom based On the job

When applying knowledge and development 'across the board' then training is the answer and is especially appropriate for new concepts and systems.

Coaching, however, can be an economical alternative if the delegates have varying levels of knowledge and skills. Not all individuals respond well to a class room setting. Coaching also adds value in backing up training as new skills are often required to utilise the knowledge effectively. It is worth remember too that people develop at different rates.

We can provide you or your employees with Training or Coaching to suit your needs. Please contact us if you need further help on this.
